Leland: My reflections about last class are okay. We did a lot of things dealing with rhetorical issues and different ways to be rhetorical. During the group assignment, I interacted with four other group members and we discuss the different identities of rhetorical things. I am covering the advertising part of a rhetorical photo. An advertising photo can help people as well as confuse people. It can help in a way the that business who place the advertisement there can gain customers. It can confuse them by making them believe that you have to look, eat, walk, or talk a certain way to look beautiful. I guess that there is more than one way to look at everything.
Here's the reflections of group 1 on the essay we read in class today: 1. The title and initial quote draw the reader in well. This is crucial for a research paper because it gives the reader a reason to keep reading. 2. At the start of the second paragraph he switches from a macro to micro perspective by naming specific international players who have succeeded. In doing this he deepened his argument and set it on a firmer foundation. 3. He displayed an effective use of charts and statistics in a paper. He backed up his argument using these statistics. 4. He did a good job of placing and transition into the chart so that it could have the maximum possible rhetorical effect. 5. He used many strong quotes and sources. By doing this he reached beyond his own opinion and brought in the thoughts of others who have experience in the topic area.
